On Wednesday, I testified at a public hearing conducted by the House Ways & Means Education Committee. Although the ETF budget did not contain a 13th check, I urged them and even challenged them to amend the budget.
Unfortunately, no one on the committee made that amendment. However, the budget will be on the floor of the House of Representatives Tuesday, March 8.
We need your help to amend the ETF Budget 2016-2017.
1.Call your House member and ask them (firmly yet friendly) to vote for the amendment. You can find Names and Phone Numbers at http://www.aerainc.org/legislators/
2.Call your Senator and explain to him/her that it has been 10 years and the time is now to fund a 13th/bonus check. The formula for this bonus check of $24 x years of service with no retiree receiving less than $300, which is the same formula the legislature passed in 2014 for retired state employees from an ailing General Fund. We have heard that Senators are in favor of education retirees getting some financial help. Remember to ask for their support. It never hurts to share your personal story with your legislator. You can find Names and Phone Numbers at http://www.aerainc.org/legislators/
We cannot give up and must work together both in Montgomery and back in the legislators’ districts. Also share this information with those who are not receiving our emails and at your local unit meetings. Spread the word and help AERA help you!
