Docents Needed at McWane Center
McWane Science Center Docent Program
McWane Science Center is now taking applications for its new Docent program!
Please submit your application no later than August 20th to be considered for the 2008/2009 class of McWane Science Center Docents
Who Are McWane Science Center Docents?
Docents at McWane Science Center are trained volunteers whose major responsibility is in presenting educational information to the public. This can be done in a variety of ways including exhibit interpretation, presenting interpretative programs, or being stationed at a cart or exhibit. Docents will play a major roll in helping the public gain a better understanding about science and the world around them.
Docents are adults from all walks of life, ages, and educational backgrounds with a passion for life-long learning.
How can I become a docent?
The successful McWane Science Center docent will:
o Fill out and return application
o Successfully complete an interview with the Director of Science Education
o Successful completion and return of DHR and criminal background checks
o Attend all training sessions provided and required by McWSC
o Commit to 1 year of service with at least 12 hours of service per month
What kind of training will I receive?
In order to succeed, all newly accepted docents will be provided with adequate and on-going training from McWane Science Center personnel as well as from experts within the community. Training topics may include, but will not be limited to the following: History of McWane Science Center, Exhibit Interpretation, Inquiry Based Learning, Science on a Sphere, Paleontology, and Animal Handling.
