Free Local Unit Letters
Each year AERA offers to every local unit a “free local unit letter” mailing. AERA Executive Secretary, Janice Charlesworth stated, “You would be surprised how many local units do not take advantage of this offer.” In the past, local unit leaders have reported a positive response to their letter. The letter crafted by the local unit is prepared, copied and mailed (bulk mail) to every retiree from a specific county or school district. This letter helps to recruit new members and to keep all education retirees informed. To assist new local unit presidents who are not sure what to include in their letter, a sample letter is in the PDF below.
AERA Secretary, Veronica Dewees, handles the preparation of these letters and would be happy to assist your local unit. The minimum turnaround time is three weeks. Also be sure to give yourself plenty of advance time for mailing the letters due to the fact that bulk mail is low priority mail that will take longer to reach education retirees. AERA President John Paul Jones urges all local units to take advantage of every opportunity to build a stronger local unit thereby helping to build a stronger state association. Questions?
