Retired Teachers Needed for Tutoring Service

Bright Start Tutoring, Inc. is looking for certified and/or retired teachers who want to make a difference in students' educations by tutoring in the Birmingham area.

Bright Start Tutoring is an in-home tutoring service.  We tutor all ages and grade levels, from K-12 through college level subjects. We also provide tutoring in all subjects, including test preparation (e.g., SAT, ACT, GRE, etc.). Tutoring takes place in the student’s home or at a library. Because of this, tutors need access to a reliable source of personal transportation.  Our tutors work from the student's school curriculum and utilize his/her textbooks, worksheets, homework, and project assignments. We tutor seven days a week: after-school, evenings, and weekends. Each tutor sets his/her own hours of availability. Each tutor also chooses the areas of Birmingham in which to tutor.  This is also a contract-based, part-time/ as needed position.  Tutors start at $25/hour.

Discovery Clubs of Alabama Inc., a non-profit Christian ministry is taking the Gospel of Christ into public schools in after school programs.  We are looking for part-time Supervisors/Volunteer Management to work in our clubs that are held on elementary school campuses. 

The position is part-time, set hours to be on the campus are 2:15-4:45.  Also included will be telephone communication, training time along with minimal computer time at home.  Day/Days of the week is optional and negotiable - In some cases the applicant may choose to work 1 to 4 days a week and can select the day(s) that best fits their schedule.  Administration skills along with the ability to effectively work with church volunteers are a must!

Teacher Volunteers Needed

Looking for a fun way to help out and stay  involved in education?

 The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is looking for retired teachers to be Lab Assistants in our Ultimate Field Trip hands-on labs.  These volunteer Lab Assistants will work with children ages 5-18 by providing support during the students’ lab experience.  Assistants will also help with set up and clean up of UFT activities and preparation of supply kits for future labs.

Benefits include free admission to the museum and invitations to “Volunteers Only” events.

No experience in science education needed!!

Volunteers Needed

SIFAT (Servants in Faith and Technology) needs your help! Throughout the year, CARES (Creative Academic Resources for Educational Success) field trips take place on SIFAT’s campus.

The programs are open to public, private, Christian and home school students, as well as youth groups and scout troops. Volunteers teach modules in our Global Village about different Asian, African and Latin American countries or Native American tribes. Daily life, housing, traditions and geographic information are mixed with interactive activities to provide opportunities for students from kindergarten to high school to learn about other cultures.  Other CARES programs explore appropriate technologies used in third world countries.

The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence is currently recruiting retired educators to take its Professional Teaching Knowledge field test. This test will help the American Board produce a better teacher certification exam. Field test participants will be compensated for their participation. They attend public high schools, while learning what it is like to live in the U.S. Volunteer host families share their homes with international exchange students who want to learn about our life and culture and share their own. However, the inability to communicate in multiple languages will make securing a professional job or founding a business in the international market very difficult.  With this future in mind, PROMISE cs4ans will offer classes in language training (Chinese, Korean, Spanish, etc.), in addition to English, PSAT/SAT, GED, TOEFL, and computer training.

As a result, we are seeking teachers qualified to teach PSAT/SAT, GED, TOEFL; Reading and Writing in English language. 

Becoming a Teacher for PROMISE Cyber School (PROMISE cs4ans)

Requirements:

• All candidates must meet all necessary qualifications and attend online training sessions before being placed to our teacher resource bank.  
• Qualified and trained teachers may have to wait for assignment  
• All teachers will work as independent contractors (Tax Form 1099) from their own homes or schools via the internet
• We expect teachers to work a minimum of 6 hours per week (2 Groups)
• Teachers can choose the subjects most qualified to teach
• Teachers can choose their instructional hours
• Teachers  hourly rate will start at $25 for experienced adult teachers, $20 for fresh college graduates (1~ 2 years after the graduation) and $15 for full-time undergraduates (preferably juniors and seniors majoring education and/or English) with a GPA of 3.5 or above
• Teachers need to teach 40~42 weeks per year
• Teachers will be evaluated by their students at the end of each year by surveys and only those teachers with a satisfactory rating of 70% or above will be qualified to continue
