The Alabama Education Retirees Association is headquartered in Montgomery and serves as an advocate for its members and the leader in the effort to protect and advance the insurance and retirement benefits of those members.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Executive Director is the AERA’s chief executive officer, who leads and manages AERA’s staff and budget. The Executive Director is directly responsible to the Board of Directors, who sets Association policy. The Executive Director serves as a non-voting member of the Board. The Executive Director is charged with skillfully advising the Board and managing and representing the long-term vision and strategic direction of the Association.

Stewardship of Financial Resources

Organizational Effectiveness and Accountability

Legislative Knowledge and Lobbying Effectiveness

Advocacy Skills

Staff Relations

Office Management Skills

REQUIREMENTS

   SKILLS:  Communications, public relations, legislative affairs, retirement issues, budgeting and fiscal management, social media, computer operations and support, delegation of duties.

   EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree and greater preferred. Evidence of life-long learning, including recent professional development work

   TYPE:  Full Time

   SALARY:  Negotiable

   LOCATION:  Must live in the Montgomery, AL, area  (No relocation costs will be paid.)
