AERA Mourns the Passing of Melvin Jones

AERA Mourns the Passing of Melvin Jones

AERA’s Board of Directors and staff are deeply saddened by Melvin Jones’ passing.  Our sincere sympathies and prayers go out to his wife, Alma Wyatt Jones, who currently serves on the AERA Board, and is a former AERA Area Coordinator and past AERA President. Since late June, Melvin has been hospitalized and battling many health issues. Last Thursday he was put on Hospice care and passed away peacefully Friday evening with Alma by his side.

The memorial service will be Wednesday, October 7 at 11 a.m. at Van Hoose & Steele Funeral Home, 2615 Stillman Blvd., in Tuscaloosa.

In lieu of flowers, Alma asks that donations be made in Melvin’s memory to the Alabama Education Retirees Foundation; 828 Washington Avenue; Montgomery, AL 36104.  Melvin and Alma were always a team, and he truly supported her work with ARTA/AERA since she retired in 1993.

Please continue to keep Alma in your prayers during this time of loss.
